Award for “technological implementation to enhance internal communication and efficiency” recognizes GXO’s innovation for customers in the fashion and luxury sector
GXO plans to further develop technology to improve efficiency at the company’s largest logistics site in Italy
GXO Logistics, Inc. (NYSE: GXO), the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider, has been awarded the prestigious “Il Logistico dell’Anno” in Italy. The prize, awarded by Assologistica, Assologistica Cultura e Formazione and Euromerci at an event celebrating the 75th anniversary of the association, gives national recognition to companies that have implemented important innovation projects in the logistics field in the past year.
“We are very proud to be recognised as ‘Logistics Operator of the Year’ in Italy for a project that combines innovation and communication for the benefit of the site team,” said Alessandro Renzo, Managing Director of Italy and Switzerland, GXO. “Our team members and our technology are our most valuable assets, and this project was designed precisely to give our team members the tools that will enable them to work and collaborate more safely and efficiently.”
Il Logistico dell’Anno recognized GXO for its effort to enhance efficiency and ease of use for team members at its industry-leading warehouse in north Italy, where it manages logistics for a global leader in the fashion and luxury sector. The project, using sophisticated, highly customized software, placed eight automated stations in key areas around the vast warehouse, one of the largest in Italy. When team members swipe their ID badges at any of these stations, their assigned location of work for the day, their work hours and even their lunch break instantly appear on the screen.
The individualized information significantly reduces time lost to confusion over scheduling or work assignments. If they choose, team members can easily print this information to take with them. The information, which may later expand to include other pertinent data, is viewable only to the team member who has badged in. A near-term goal of the project is to equip the stations with a chat assistant that will help answer questions and facilitate direct communication with department managers.
This GXO warehouse features cutting-edge technological and environmental systems and operates as a global omnichannel logistics hub. The complexity of the activities conducted there requires efficiency, speed and precision, making the warehouse a perfect place to implement the automated stations, which are reducing training time and enhancing efficiency, accuracy and communication.
