Invest in yourself and create opportunity: How apprenticeships and skills development are shaping the future of logistics
Corinna Refsgaard, Chief Human Resources Officer | March 16, 2026

Every February, Careers Month offers an opportunity to reflect on how people start, advance, and reinvent their careers, and why investing in talent is essential to building a resilient, future‑ready workforce. This year’s theme, “Invest in yourself and create opportunity,” captured a truth that has shaped my own professional journey and drives much of my work at GXO.
My career began with an apprenticeship, a path that gave me hands‑on learning, exposure to real business challenges, and the confidence to take on roles that stretched me. I started out in Finance, but through curiosity and continued development, I discovered where I truly thrived: supporting people and helping teams unlock their potential.
My time as an apprentice taught me something foundational: careers aren’t predefined; they’re created. And when individuals have access to the right training, support, and opportunities, they can build careers that are both rewarding and transformative.
That belief underpins so much of what we do at GXO.
Strengthening the Logistics Talent Pipeline Through Apprenticeships
GXO offers one of the UK’s Top 10 apprenticeship programs*, providing more than 1,700 apprentices with industry‑recognized qualifications and on‑the‑job experience. A few examples include:
- Degree‑level supply chain apprenticeships through our partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, where more than 100 individuals are developing leadership and logistics capabilities through work‑based learning.
- Participation in the UK’s first robotics degree‑level apprenticeship with Cranfield University, helping develop cutting‑edge skills in automation and engineering – capabilities that are increasingly essential in modern warehouse environments.
These programs reflect a belief we hold strongly: when companies invest in people, industries strengthen and individuals thrive.
Careers grounded in growth, possibility, and support
Apprenticeships are just one part of a broader commitment to empowering long-term professional growth at GXO. Our global colleagues have access to more than one million hours of internal training, offered in multiple languages and tailored to different stages of career growth.
That ecosystem includes:
- The GXO Driver Academy, supporting the next generation of professional drivers
- Programs for individuals re‑entering the workforce
- Support for veterans transitioning to civilian careers
- Leadership development pathways for those looking to take the next step

Whether through apprenticeships, degree programs, leadership initiatives, or specialized training, our goal is simple: create opportunities that empower people and strengthen the industry as a whole.
We’re proud of the progress made and energized by what comes next. By equipping people with skills, confidence, and clear pathways to advancement, GXO is helping shape a dynamic logistics workforce ready for the opportunities of tomorrow.
