Welcome to Belonging Week!

Malcolm Wilson, CEO  |  January 23, 2023

As CEO, I’m fortunate to spend much of my time travelling to see our operations and meet team members around the globe. In addition to seeing the stellar work that we deliver for our customers, I’m always very proud to see the extensive diversity of the people working across our sites as I’m a firm believer that innovative solutions require diverse perspectives, from the frontline to the boardroom.

At GXO, one of our five core values is “Be inclusive.” Our values aren’t just words on paper — we strive to live them every day. From policies, training and mentoring to partnerships and sponsorships, we’ve taken a range of actions to help bring this value to life.

The leadership team and I are intentional about creating a respectful, ethical and collaborative workplace. This is what “Belonging Week” is all about.

We’ll hold our inaugural Belonging Week this week. Across our sites, our teams will be signing the GXO #WeBelong pledge and participating in a range of activities to recognize and evolve our commitment to belonging. We’ll use this time to continue to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace where all team members can bring their true selves to work and feel that they can realize their own full potential here — to feel that they belong, all year round.

We’re committed to taking steps to create meaningful change for our teams and the communities in which we live and work, focusing on what we refer to as the six dimensions of diversity:

  1. Disabilities
GXO is a proud employer of individuals living with disabilities, including Down’s Syndrome, autism, learning and developmental disabilities and multiple sclerosis. We partner with groups such as WorkFit, Mencap, Log’ins, VIP and The Arc to support people with disabilities by offering rewarding jobs, fostering an inclusive workplace and raising awareness and funds for the wider community.
  2. Gender
We’ve partnered with LEAD (Leading Executives Advancing Diversity) and Awesome Leaders to help support the growth and advancement of women, enabling them to realize their full potential in their careers and their lives.
  3. Generations
We implemented “mentoring circles” to facilitate knowledge and experience sharing from one generation to the next, letting older people help younger people and helping younger people feel they fit in. We’re also developing a “generations almanac” that will collect the wisdom and contributions of our retirees and make that legacy readily accessible to current team members.
  4. LGBTQ+
We contribute resources — for example, we’re a PFLAG National Learning Partner — and fund a variety of sponsorships to support the LGBTQ+ community at GXO and in the communities where our team members live and work.
  5. Race & Ethnicity
With operations in nearly 30 countries around the globe, GXO is proud to employ team members from widely diverse races and ethnicities and we constantly seek ways to expand the diversity of our employee population. We have diversity training and use executive sponsorships to invest in and support colleagues from diverse backgrounds who are striving to realize their full potential.
  6. Veterans
We honor our team members who are military veterans for the sacrifices they have made to protect and defend their countries and we value the experience and skills they bring to our operations. We add veterans to our workforce through partnerships with Hiring Our Heroes and Vet Indexes and we are planning events and activities for veterans later this year.

I’m very pleased that Belonging Week is heightening awareness of and focus on the importance of inclusion to our culture and I look forward, along with all GXO team members around the world, to continuing to make GXO a place of belonging and a great place to work for everyone.
